Hello football fans!
Today we introduce you to our internal All22 Grading Scale, as we aim to provide more nuance to our future Substack posts. The grading scale is the first of multiple posts where we will expose our readers to our scouting process and methodologies as we aim to elevate the global evaluation space. We will forego general stats in our player evaluations for now, in favor of providing you insight into how we grade and fit players within the uniqueness of a global landscape.
The All22 Grading Scale ranks players on a 10-59 scoring range. Each grade reflects the level of global football we project them to sustainably fit, and their archetype/role within that level of play.
We break it down fully here below:
Grade
NFL Caliber Prospect (50-59)
A high-level developmental prospect. Either a potential late-round pick due to one or two elite traits OR a likely UDFA whose college pedigree/resume is consistent with those who make NFL rosters.
High-level CFL Prospect (45-49)
A polished football player, usually with special teams value, who does not quite meet the NFL requirements. May be deficient in some traits but has equivalent compensating factors.
Fringe CFL Prospect (40-44)
A raw developmental player who may struggle to crack a CFL roster now but possesses physical upside or athletic traits which suggest he could improve on practice squad. Typically young and/or inexperienced.
Impact ELF Prospect (37-39)
An impact Global import who falls short of the physical attributes for North American professional football. Must be an impact starter, near the top of his position group league-wide.
Base-level ELF Prospect (30-36)
A competent or functional athlete who can be a core homegrown ELF player. Should not be coveted as a top import but can play at that level.
Sub-ELF Prospect (20-29)
A player who can thrive in other Global leagues but would not separate himself athletically at the ELF level. Replacement level player.
Local Player Only (10-19)
Not an impact prospect. Should not move beyond his own local league/team.
Archetype
We use the 7/8, 5/6 or 3/4 to reflect if a player is on the higher or lower end of that archetype/role.
Impact Starter (9): A very good prospect. Will be an every down player with significant impact. A player you win because of.
Functional Starter (7/8): A good prospect. Not necessarily a difference-maker, but a competent contributor. You can win with him in the game.
Rotational Player (5/6): Not an every-down player but can see the field on O or D in a specific role. Brings situational value but may be limited in other ways.
Strong Backup/Core Special Teamer (3/4): Has limitations on O or D but will be a top contributor on special teams. An asset on the field in that phase, not just a body. Can get you out of a game on O or D if needed.
Developmental Project (2): Not yet ready to contribute at this level but possesses intriguing physical traits. Could be moulded into something given time and proper coaching.
Depth Contributor (1): May never be a regular contributor but provides depth and can functionally play on special teams when called upon. A fringe roster player with significant limitations but may have one or two compensating factors.
We essentially combine the two numbers to get a fully encompassing grade and archetype. So a 39 becomes an ELF prospect (3) who would be an Impact starter at that level (9). You will see these grades included in our player snapshots going forward.
